WEST AFRICA
The Atlantic Ocean forms the western and the southern borders of the West African region. The northern border is the Sahara Desert, while the eastern border lies between the Benue Trough and a line running from Mount Cameroon to Lake Chad.
West Africa’s climate is controlled by the interaction of two air masses, the influence of which varies throughout the year with the north-south movement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), bringing dusty winds from November to February and the annual monsoon rains in the summer.
West African cotton is rain-fed cotton. Low pesticide use ensures a comparatively low polluting and hand picking preserves the intrinsic qualities of the cotton fiber.
West African cotton, thus, has a very low carbon footprint, protecting the biodiversity of the environment.
